The City of Sweetwater, Florida, has one building that incorporates
both its City Hall and police station. With a total of more than 100
employees, the three-story facility required a system that could
provide, monitor scheduled access to its main entrances and employee
work areas. The police station required absolute security, while
still providing reception desk accessibility to the general public.

This installation provided BMS with the ideal opportunity to
showcase the benefits of employee management and sensitive location
security provided by the
bioman system.
- The exterior and interior entrances to
the police station were outfitted with V-Smart MIFARE biometric
terminals with exterior housings.
- For increased security and
accountability, BMS installed a biometric reader on the police
station’s most sensitive location, the evidence room. For this
area, the City of Sweetwater chose to implement the “two-person
rule” which only allows access when two authorized individuals
simultaneously present their fingerprints and employee
identification cards.
- BMS’s study of the building determined
that the second floor – which houses the Mayor’s Office,
payroll, public records and conference room – could be made more
secure by moving the door leading to the Mayor’s Office toward
the second floor reception area, which was then secured with a
reader. A second door with a reader was also added on the
opposite side to secure the City’s payroll department after
hours.
- All city employees (including police
officers) were issued a Contactless Smartcard embedded with
their identity record and reference fingerprint template.
Utilizing our employee identification service, the City of
Sweetwater now has a visually appealing employee identification
card that can be used for accurate and immediate identification.
- Variable access controls and rights
were assigned for each group (Police, Administration, Visitor,
etc.), and / or individuals during system set-up to determine if
the individual presenting the card and fingerprint had the right
to gain entry to that particular door.

The flexibility of the
bioman system allowed the City of Sweetwater
to provide the appropriate level of security and accountability for
both city administration and law enforcement functions within the
same building. During normal hours of operation employees and
members of the public can access the main City Hall lobby without
going through a checkpoint. City employees have necessary access to
areas within the facility, based upon their access rights.
High-sensitivity areas are protected by the most restricted level of
access. Retrofitting second floor areas with biometric terminal
controlled doors provided additional security.
